Gutter cleaning is not on anyone’s fun list of things that needs to be done but owning a house is a responsibility that entails many maintenance procedures that don’t often cross our minds. Many times home owners think that if they don’t have any trees directly over their home’s roof they won’t be affected by debris in their gutters but this is typically not the case.
Even new homes in newer developments can develop debris over time and those collections of leaves, needles and moss can cause more harm then most realize. If left unattended, debris in gutters can hold onto moisture and press it against the fascia boards of your home which are the horizontal boards at the end of the overhang. This can cause boards to rot and disintegrate over time. If left long enough this moisture may actually travel into the house under eves and through attic vents causing health problems down the line.
