It's time for our homeowner Question and Answer Portion. Here's one submitted by a Top Dog customer:

QUESTION: Why do we need Sump Pumps?

TOP DOG ANSWER: The picture above shows a new basement before the final concrete is applied. Notice the accumulation of ground water because the sump pump system is not installed.

One of the most important functions of sump pumps is to protect basements from flooding, especially during Spring. Heavy rains can overwhelm the sanitary sewer collection system and lead to sewage backups in basements. The sanitary system is designed to heavy rains, but it becomes overloaded because many people connect their sump pump discharge hose to the sanitary sewer. The sanitary system does not have capacity to carry this excess clear water.

Sump pumps also perform important functions during normal weather conditions. They drain groundwater from under and around our basement floors. Removing the groundwater reduces the possibility of the basement floors c…

Top Dog was very prompt in contacting me and very professional in proving an estimate.

We originally called for an estimate on May 9 and finally got a call back the evening of May 14. We were asked to e-mail a list of the things we wanted worked on and did that the morning of May 15. We still haven't heard anything back as of today, May 21. I wish they had informed us up front that they were too busy or not interested so we would not have wasted all of this time.

They arrived on time. They looked at the work I wanted done on the garage ceiling; cracks at the wall board joints. They gave me an estimate on time. They completed the work just shy of the time they thought it would take. I was happy with their work. They cleaned up their mess. Nice people to talk to. Beyond explaining what they thought they would do to fix the cracks, they also explained why they were doing certain things when I asked about them. I would have them back.

I recently had a kitchen sink and faucet replaced by Top Dog owner Rod Heiston. He arrived during the requested time window, was friendly and professional. He first tried to only replace the faucet because he said the sink was still i good shape, which would have allowed me to return the new sink I bought. Unfortunately the rust on the faucet assembly was such that he could not get them separated, so he ended up changing both. I appreciated is efforts in trying to save me money. I bought the two hour labor special thru Service Alley and Rod completed all work within the two hour window. He did not try to up sale and take unnecessary time and charge me more. I would highly recommend Top Dog services to anyone.....Jerry
